Army Officer’s Family Assaulted in Delhi; Police Accused of Inaction

A shocking incident in Delhi's Vasant Vihar has brought to light serious allegations of harassment and assault against a serving Army officer's family, compounded by a disturbing failure of law enforcement to act. The officer's wife has detailed how a group of men, allegedly drinking in a car outside their home, not only misbehaved with her but also assaulted her husband and son when they intervened. The situation was allegedly exacerbated by the inaction of a Police Control Room (PCR) team that arrived at the scene.

According to the complaint, the PCR personnel reportedly spoke with the occupants of the car, who then seemingly influenced the situation over the phone, rather than taking immediate action to de-escalate. This alleged inaction allowed the situation to spiral, with more individuals joining the initial group and assaulting the officer and his son for a considerable period. The complainant also alleges that her modesty was outraged during the assault, highlighting the severity of the misconduct.

The family's subsequent attempt to file a complaint at the Vasant Vihar police station was also reportedly met with delays, further adding to their distress. The Indian Army has taken serious note of the matter, with a military police team directed to assist the officer and the Delhi Police urged for an expeditious investigation.
