Army recovers slain Imo community leader’s remains from shallow grave

Troops operating under Operation UDO KA have successfully exhumed the remains of Chief Ibe Anyadu, a community leader from Aggah in Imo State, Nigeria. The discovery was made after a suspect, allegedly involved in the leader's murder, led security operatives to a shallow grave.

The Nigerian Army reported that the operation, conducted by the 34 Artillery Brigade as part of Operation EASTERN SANITY II, followed recent intelligence-led actions. These operations had already led to the arrest of suspects connected to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen military weapons.

This suspect then guided troops to a forest camp within Umudike Forest, a known criminal hideout, where the remains were recovered on August 2, 2026. The exhumation was witnessed by members of the deceased's family, local vigilante personnel, and community representatives.

Maj. Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, Commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, offered condolences to the family. He assured them that justice would be served and the suspects would face prosecution according to Nigerian law. The Army reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the South-East and urged the public to continue providing credible information.
