Bandits kill one, abduct 31 in latest attack on Katsina communities

One person was killed and 32 others were abducted in a violent raid by armed bandits on the Shuwaki community in the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, Nigeria. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, also left at least seven residents injured. The bandits operated for between one and a half to two hours, according to local reports.

After the initial abduction, the attackers released one woman who was too ill to continue the forced journey, leaving 31 people, predominantly women and some carrying infants, in captivity. The fate of the remaining captives remains uncertain as no ransom demand has been made. The assailants also stole cattle and sheep during the raid, and took mobile phones from residents.

Aminu Magaji, a former chairman of the Bakori Local Government Area, detailed the attack, stating that it occurred between 9 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. He confirmed the casualties and abductions, noting that the captives were taken towards the forest. Security forces, including local police and community watch corps, were alerted and attempted to block the bandits' escape routes with at least five vehicles. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to intercept the attackers or rescue the hostages.
