Army troops safely detonate explosive device in El Cairo (Cajibío) and restore traffic on the Pan-American Highway

Colombian Army troops successfully neutralized an improvised explosive device on the Pan-American Highway in Cajibío, Cauca, averting a potential tragedy. The timely intervention by the Explosives Handling Group (Marte) restored normal traffic flow on the crucial southwest corridor.

The device was discovered camouflaged in a culvert by military units during routine patrols. Experts from the Marte group executed a controlled detonation with precision, ensuring the safety of drivers, transporters, and local residents. Authorities had temporarily restricted vehicle passage during the operation.

The incident has caused concern among residents, particularly as it occurred just hours before the second round of presidential elections. This area of Cauca is known to be influenced by the "Jaime Martínez" structure, a dissident FARC faction linked to violent incidents, including a deadly April attack that killed 21 people and injured over 40.
