Arokodare Scores on Ajax Debut in Pre-Season Win

New Ajax striker Tolu Arokodare made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut for the Dutch club during their 3-1 pre-season victory over FC Volendam. The match took place at the Kras Stadion in Volendam on Sunday.

Arokodare entered the game as a 71st-minute substitute for Marcos Leonardo. He sealed the scoring for Ajax by capitalizing on a misjudged clearance within the FC Volendam penalty area. Earlier goals from Anton Gaaei and Leonardo had already put Ajax in a commanding position.

The striker recently arrived in Amsterdam on a season-long loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an option for the transfer to become permanent. This debut goal marks a promising start for Arokodare, who previously had a notable spell at Racing Genk before his move to Wolves.

His tenure at Wolves ended acrimoniously, with the club alleging he disrupted training amid transfer speculations. Arokodare denied these claims, stating on social media, "Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards." The 25-year-old joined Wolves in September 2025 for a reported £24 million on a four-year contract, following a successful period with Genk where he scored 31 league goals in 79 appearances. However, his performance in the Premier League was less prolific, netting just three times in 33 games before Wolves' relegation to the Championship.

Ajax finished fifth in the Eredivisie last season and are set to compete in the Conference League this season, pending the outcome of their play-off matches.
