Arsenal chief executive reveals ambition to build a football dynasty

Arsenal are not treating their first Premier League title in 22 years as the conclusion of their story. Chief executive Richard Garlick says the north London club wants to build a dynasty and dominate European football for years to come.

The Gunners celebrated their league triumph last season, then endured an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Garlick said the title celebrations were deserved, but insisted the club quickly turned its attention to what comes next.

Arsenal have never won the Champions League or the European Cup, its predecessor. They have started the new Premier League campaign with two victories, however, and are pursuing the club’s first consecutive English top-flight titles since the 1930s.

Garlick described the ambition in the clearest terms: “I dream of us being serial champions, of us repeating what we did last year and going one better maybe in the Champions League and winning major trophies.” He added: “This is a period of dominance, you could call it the start of a dynasty, this is what we’re aiming to do. We’re aiming to dominate football for the next few years on every front.” Arsenal’s next test comes against London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday. Chelsea have also won their opening two league games.
