Artificial Intelligence: Musk Announces 'Historically Accurate' AI Film of 'The Odyssey'

Tesla founder Elon Musk has declared his intention to produce a film adaptation of Homer's ancient epic, "The Odyssey," using artificial intelligence. Musk announced on his platform X that his AI company, xAI, will leverage its image and video generator, Grok Imagine, to create a feature-length film. He promised the production would be "historically accurate" and "true to the art of Homer" before the end of 2026.

This announcement arrives as a contemporary film adaptation of "The Odyssey," featuring Matt Damon as the Greek hero Odysseus on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, is currently playing in cinemas. The star-studded cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.

However, Musk's assertion of historical accuracy has drawn immediate skepticism. Critics point out that Homer's "Odyssey" is a work of mythology, not a historical account, featuring elements such as sorcery, cyclops, and sirens. The exact meaning of "historically accurate" in this context remains unclear from Musk's statement. The German publication Die Zeit noted that the ancient poem is not a historical report, leaving the interpretation of Musk's claim open to question.
