Artists Protest TIM's Commercial Management Model

Artists gathered at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) in Jakarta on Saturday to protest what they call the excessive commercialization of the cultural complex. Under the banner "Unjuk Rasa, Unjuk Karya" (Rally, Showcase Work), the artists expressed their rejection of TIM's current management model.

They argue that the focus on commercial interests is shifting the primary function of TIM away from being a center for artistic creation, development, appreciation, and education. The artists displayed replica video cameras and posters during their demonstration.

In addition to protesting, participants showcased their artwork as a way to convey their aspirations to the area's management. The artists involved in the demonstration hope that TIM's management will preserve the complex's identity as a public space dedicated to arts and culture and a vibrant center for community creative activities.
