Arusha Commissioner Orders Removal of Utilities to Speed Up Road Construction

Arusha Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla has issued a stern order for the immediate removal of all infrastructure impeding the construction of a new four-lane road. The directive specifically targets utilities belonging to the Tanzania Electric Supply Corporation (Tanesco) and the Arusha Water and Sewerage Authority (Auwsa), demanding their swift relocation to clear the path for contractors.

Makalla issued the order during an inspection of the Mbauda–Tanganyika Packers to Losinyai road project, which connects to the East Africa Bypass. He stressed that clearing these obstructions is vital for the contractor to proceed with the project at the required pace and within the planned schedule. The road is a significant undertaking, intended to ease access to the Afcon stadium and facilitate future infrastructure use.

The Regional Commissioner emphasized that the prompt removal of Tanesco and Auwsa infrastructure is essential to prevent delays. This is particularly critical given the upcoming Afcon games and the long-term benefits the improved road network will bring to the region. Makalla's firm stance underscores the urgency of the project and the commitment to overcoming obstacles for timely completion.
