As Cyber Threats Grow, Calls to Strengthen System Defenses Intensify

Lithuania's National Crisis Management Center (NKVC) is calling on national organizations to re-evaluate their security protocols and enhance system defenses. This advisory comes as cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, fueled by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).

The center highlights a growing trend of software vulnerabilities being discovered and exploited at an accelerating pace. AI is significantly contributing to this dynamic, empowering malicious actors to pinpoint system weaknesses and automate aspects of their attacks more efficiently than ever before.

"The cyber threat landscape is changing – artificial intelligence allows attackers to more quickly identify system weaknesses and automate parts of the attack process," stated Antanas Aleknavičius, director of the NKSC. "Therefore, organizations must not only implement security measures but also ensure continuous infrastructure monitoring, rapid response, and consistent management of security processes."

The NKSC recommends that organizations maintain up-to-date inventories of their systems, software, and network resources. Regular vulnerability assessments, continuous monitoring of security information, and periodic penetration testing are also advised. To mitigate the impact of potential incidents, the center suggests network segmentation, regular backups, centralized system monitoring, and comprehensive employee training on recognizing phishing attempts, social engineering tactics, and AI-generated fake audio and video content.
