ASDP focuses on recovery and support for victims of KMP Aceh Hebat 2 ferry fire

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has expressed deep concern and sorrow following a fire incident aboard the KMP Aceh Hebat 2 ferry. The blaze erupted in the engine room on Friday, June 12, 2026, while the vessel was docked at the Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh.

The company's primary focus is on the welfare and recovery of the victims. "Our thoughts and attention are now fully focused on the victims undergoing treatment and their accompanying families. We pray for strength for all victims and for their swift recovery," stated Heru Widodo, President Director of ASDP. He assured that the company would provide continuous support throughout the treatment and recovery process, ensuring no victim faces the situation alone.

Approximately 15 individuals who sustained burn injuries have been evacuated to hospitals for further medical attention. ASDP is actively coordinating with relevant authorities to monitor the victims' conditions and ensure all necessary medical needs are met. The company also expressed appreciation for the swift response of the ship's crew, port officials, medical personnel, and other involved parties who helped contain the emergency.

Initial reports suggest the incident began with a burst in the automatic watertight door hydraulic system in the engine room. The crew initiated emergency procedures, and their rapid response, which took about three to four minutes, successfully controlled the fire and prevented it from spreading. ASDP's Banda Aceh branch is fully supporting the victim handling process and maintaining optimal coordination with various parties.
