ASDP steps up coordination to ease vehicle congestion at Ketapang port

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry is intensifying efforts to clear vehicle queues at Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi as traffic on the Java-Bali crossing rises sharply.

ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said the company is optimizing vessel operations and coordinating with regulators and other stakeholders. The aim is to speed up the removal of queues while keeping the crossing safe and comfortable for passengers and freight operators.

Heru apologized to users affected by the congestion and acknowledged the uncertainty it creates for communities and logistics businesses that depend on predictable travel times. “We continue to strengthen measures to handle vehicle congestion in the Ketapang Port area in Banyuwangi through optimized vessel operations and intensive coordination with regulators and relevant stakeholders,” he said.

The congestion has been driven partly by a roughly 16% increase in logistics vehicle traffic from the same period last month. At the same time, one pair of berths at Ketapang and Gilimanuk is temporarily out of service while undergoing upgrades to raise capacity to 50 tons. The work forms part of infrastructure improvements ahead of the Christmas and New Year travel period and Eid al-Fitr 2027.

Operational changes at Tanjung Wangi have also redirected some logistics vehicles to Ketapang. ASDP operated 23 vessels on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route on Saturday, Sept. 5, and deployed KMP Jatra I and KMP Portlink 0 to reinforce services. The two vessels left for Tanjung Wangi on Saturday and are scheduled to arrive Tuesday, Sept. 8. KMP Jatra I will support the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route, while KMP Portlink 0 will serve the Tanjung Wangi-Lembar route through Gili Mas Port.
