Asian Games Baseball: Huang Wei-sheng Reunites With Mentor on National Team Debut

Huang Wei-sheng, a new addition to the Chinese Professional Baseball League, is set to make his debut for the national baseball team at the Asian Games. The coaching staff selected him from the CTBC Brothers team, anticipating his contribution to bolstering the infield.

Huang's journey to the national team includes a significant reunion with his former college coach, Tang Deng-kai. Huang initially attended Kangning University, but the baseball program disbanded after just one year. He then transferred to Far East University under Coach Tang, who he considers a pivotal figure in his career. "My goal at the time was to play professionally and join a top-tier university team to be noticed by scouts," Huang recalled. "Coach Tang gave me many opportunities, including arranging for me to play in international exchange games. He was truly my benefactor."

Describing Coach Tang as having a commanding presence on the field but being kind off it, Huang shared his excitement about this unexpected reunion. "It feels like fate to meet Coach Tang again. I'm very happy," he said. "The coach brought his team to play in the Four Nations Elite League at the Intercontinental Stadium not long ago, and I met him then to catch up."
