Asogwa’s victory in Enugu North Senatorial by-election proves APC’s dominance - Mbah

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has congratulated Ikeje Asogwa, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), on his victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election. Mbah hailed the win as a clear affirmation of the APC's acceptance and political dominance within the state.

On behalf of the Government and good people of Enugu State, I congratulate Chief Ikeje Asogwa on this resounding victory.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Asogwa the winner of the senatorial seat, which became vacant following the death of Senator Okey Ezea of the Labour Party in November 2025. The district encompasses Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Etiti, and Udenu Local Government Areas.

Announcing the results, Returning Officer Professor Christian Ezeibe stated that Asogwa garnered a substantial 162,360 votes. His closest competitor, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 9,299 votes. The margin of victory underscores the APC's strong performance in the region.

Governor Mbah characterized the outcome as a "statement and landmark victory" for both his administration and the APC. He asserted that the landslide win definitively proves the APC has emerged as the "unquestionable dominant political force" across Enugu State, indicating a complete alignment of the people with the party. He also viewed the result as a vote of confidence in Asogwa, whom he described as a "people's champion" dedicated to public service.

If anybody was in doubt, the landslide victory proves, beyond rhetoric, that APC has now emerged as the unquestionable dominant political force across the length and breadth of our state. Our people are fully aligned.

Mbah expressed confidence that Asogwa's presence in the Senate would enhance the partnership between the state and federal governments, potentially leading to increased "dividends of democracy" for the constituents.
