Andy Farrant, co-editor of the YouTube channel Outside Xbox, expressed excitement for the remake, calling "Black Flag" the best game in the series. He noted that the original's primary drawbacks were the "boring modern day bits" set in a Montreal office, which have been removed in the remake. Farrant believes the strength of "Black Flag" lies in its world and characters, and the remake offers a chance to revisit this acclaimed setting with updated visuals and potentially more focus on the pirate narrative.
