Asteras Tripolis 0-1 Olympiacos: Jota Silva seals a major win

Jota Silva’s first-half header gave Olympiacos a 1-0 victory at Asteras Tripolis and preserved the club’s perfect start to the Stoiximan Super League season.

Asteras began more brightly and tried to exploit space behind the Olympiacos defence. Orozco created an early opening from the right, but Ortega dealt with the effort from a difficult angle.

Olympiacos gradually improved and took the lead in the 31st minute. Saliakas delivered a cross from the right, and Silva met it with a header from near the penalty spot. The visitors then pushed for a second goal, but Papadopoulos denied Roca before halftime.

Olympiacos came close again after the break when El Kaabi’s header struck the crossbar. The Moroccan forward later went one-on-one with Papadopoulos, who saved to keep Asteras in the match.

Asteras continued to press and nearly equalised in the 64th minute, when Mendes’ effort from the penalty area went just wide. Olympiacos made a series of substitutions as coach José Luis Mendilibar sought to refresh the team and protect the lead.
