Asunción Celebrates Founding Anniversary and Children's Day Eve with Packed Historic Center

The historic center of Asunción was filled with thousands of families on August 15, celebrating both the 489th anniversary of the city's founding and the eve of Children's Day. The dual occasion brought a festive atmosphere with numerous events organized by the government, local vendors, and businesses.

The day began with the traditional military parade, attended by national authorities and drawing citizens from across Paraguay. Following the parade, the iconic Palma Street in the historic center was transformed into a pedestrian zone for the Pamearte Fair. This vibrant market showcased a diverse array of gastronomic offerings, plants, handicrafts, photographs, sculptures, and decorative items, adding color and life to the avenue as families strolled through.

The Pamearte organization also hosted various cultural activities, including dance performances and music concerts. In parallel, the city marked the eve of Children's Day. While the date commemorates the tragic Battle of Acosta Ñu, where many Paraguayan children fought against allied forces, the celebration focused on joy with games and actors dressed as superheroes like Batman, Spider-Man, and Deadpool posing with children near the Pantheon of Heroes.

Authorities announced that street closures on Palma Street and the Costanera Avenue would continue through Sunday to accommodate the ongoing festivities. The celebrations highlighted Asunción's rich history and provided a lively environment for families to enjoy the holiday.
