Asunción's historic center offers a weekend of fairs, exhibitions, tours, and cultural activities

Asunción's historic center is set to buzz with a diverse array of cultural activities this weekend, offering something for everyone. The "El Centro Alienta" initiative, supported by the National Secretariat of Culture, aims to invigorate the area with a packed schedule that includes artisan fairs, exhibitions, culinary discussions, heritage tours, and traditional celebrations.

A key attraction is the "Artesanías que Abrigan" (Crafts that Warm) Winter Fair at the Staudt Cultural Space. Running Friday and Saturday, it will feature local artisans from the Paraguayan Crafts Institute (IPA) selling warm clothing, textiles, leather goods, accessories, ceramics, and decorative items, some inspired by the national football team, "Albirroja."

The National Archive will also host special events. On Saturday, "Conversatorios con Autores de Gastronomía" (Conversations with Gastronomy Authors) will feature Matheus Caffarena and Christian Kent discussing their book "Cocina de Inmigrantes" (Immigrant Cuisine), exploring the links between food, migration, and cultural heritage. The archive also continues its exhibition, "4 tiempos de la República. Las constituciones del Paraguay" (4 Eras of the Republic. The Constitutions of Paraguay), showcasing original documents and historical materials.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the "San Juanazo del Centro" will take place on Saturday in the Cabildo Plazas, featuring traditional games, local food, music, and dance performances. Notable acts include Andrea Valobra and the National Police Folk Ensemble. To accommodate the festivities, the Museo Casa de la Independencia will extend its hours until 9 p.m., allowing visitors to explore its permanent collection.
