At least 12 killed as Polish tourist bus overturns in Hungary

At least 12 people died and 10 others were injured when a Polish tourist bus carrying 57 passengers overturned on a motorway in northeastern Hungary early Sunday. The tragic accident occurred around 1 a.m. near the Mezokeresztes exit on the M3 motorway, heading towards Nyiregyhaza. Hungarian news outlet Blikk reported that emergency crews worked through the night, rescuing 35 individuals from the vehicle by 3 a.m. However, several passengers were still trapped beneath the overturned bus.

Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, and a separate bus was provided to shelter passengers who survived the crash. The section of the motorway was closed for several hours to facilitate rescue operations and allow for an investigation into the cause of the accident. Traffic was diverted at Mezokeresztes, causing significant delays.

In response to the disaster, Poland sent a relief flight to assist the passengers affected by the crash. Authorities in Hungary have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. The M3 motorway is a major route connecting Budapest with the northeastern part of the country.
