At least 25 dead in India floods and landslides

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered devastating floods and landslides across northern and northeastern India, claiming the lives of at least 25 people over the weekend. Officials report that the situation remains precarious, with fears of further casualties as the monsoon is expected to continue for the next six to seven days. In the Indian-administered Kashmir region, separate rain-related incidents in the districts of Punch, Rajouri, and Doda resulted in at least 15 deaths, with several individuals still reported missing. Meanwhile, in the northeastern state of Nagaland, multiple landslides caused by persistent rainfall led to nine fatalities. Rescue teams have recovered four bodies so far. Further east, the state of Assam has been severely impacted, with one person confirmed dead in the floods. The disaster has affected more than 57,000 people across seven districts within the state. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a statement on social media indicating that active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over northwestern, eastern, and northeastern India in the coming week.
