At least two killed, 14 wounded in deadly bomb attack in predominantly Druze area near Damascus

A bomb detonated in a minibus on the outskirts of Damascus killed two people and injured 14 others on Thursday night. The explosion occurred in Jaramana, an area primarily inhabited by members of the Druze religious minority.

Officials are investigating the blast, with a security source telling state-run Ekhbariya TV that preliminary information indicates an explosive device was planted on the vehicle. Footage from the scene showed the charred remains of the minibus being removed. Samer Abbas, a resident whose clothing store was near the blast, described hearing a "strong unnatural sound" and felt shrapnel hit his storefront.

Bassal Imad, whose cousin was injured in the explosion while driving the vehicle, called the bombing "sadistic" and "very wicked." The attack comes amid ongoing tensions in Syria, where factions within the Druze community have clashed with the country's new Islamist leadership. A UN investigation in March reported that over 1,700 people, predominantly Druze civilians, were killed in the southern Sweida province in July 2025. The UN also stated that Syrian government forces, tribal fighters, and Druze armed groups may have committed war crimes during that period.
