Athletics: Craft wins European silver in discus throw

German discus thrower Shanice Craft secured the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, marking her first time winning silver at the event after previously earning three bronze medals.

The 33-year-old athlete achieved a throw of 65.72 meters. She finished behind the Netherlands' Jorinde van Klinken, who recorded the season's best performance with a throw of 67.67 meters. Van Klinken also won silver in the shot put earlier in the championships.

Sweden's Vanessa Kamga took the bronze medal with a throw of 64.61 meters. This silver medal is Craft's first podium finish at a major athletics event since 2018, when she won bronze at the home European Championships in Berlin. She also secured bronze medals in 2016 and 2014.

Kristin Pudenz, a previous European silver medalist and Olympic silver medalist from Tokyo 2021, finished fifth in the competition with a throw of 63.27 meters. Pudenz had faced difficulties during the qualification rounds.
