Atlanta’s Kim Ha-seong Records First Extra-Base Hit and a Walk, Raises Season Average to .120

Kim Ha-seong produced his first extra-base hit of the season and reached base twice as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 9-0 in Washington, D.C.

Batting ninth and starting at shortstop on May 3 Korea time, Kim went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored. He grounded into a force out in the third inning and hit a catcher’s foul fly in the fifth.

With Atlanta leading 3-0 in the seventh, Kim lined a double to left field against right-hander Max Kranick. It was his first extra-base hit of the season. He later scored when Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a home run, and Kim drew a walk in the eighth inning for his second time reaching base.

The result lifted Kim’s season batting average from .112 to .120. Acuña also stole a base in the sixth inning before hitting his home run in the seventh, reaching 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases in 904 games, the fewest games needed to achieve the mark. Atlanta’s victory kept the Braves atop the National League East.
