Atlas poll puts Fonteles at 62.4% in Piauí, with Joel Rodrigues on 20.9%

Rafael Fonteles, the governor of Piauí, leads the state's 2026 gubernatorial race with 62.4% of voting intentions, according to an AtlasIntel poll published Thursday. Joel Rodrigues of the Progressistas party has 20.9%, leaving Fonteles positioned to win re-election in the first round if the numbers translate into votes.

The poll places Lúcia Santos at 1.5%, Lourdes Melo at 0.8%, Elizeu Aguiar and Professor Gisvaldo at 0.6% each, and Gustavo pelo Piauí at 0.5%. Geraldo Carvalho and Professor Jurity each receive 0.2%, while Santiago Belizário receives 0.2% and Ravenna da Inclusão registers 0%. Blank and invalid votes account for 6.3%, with 5.7% undecided.

AtlasIntel conducted 1,622 online interviews between Aug. 28 and Sept. 2. The poll has a margin of error of two percentage points and a confidence level of 95%. It was commissioned by the Meio Norte portal and registered with Brazil's Superior Electoral Court under protocols PI-03771/2026 and BR-03636/2026.

Lula leads the presidential race among Piauí voters with 60.3%, followed by Flávio Bolsonaro at 19.3%. Augusto Cury has 8.5%, Renan Santos 3.8% and Ronaldo Caiado 2.3%. Romeu Zema has 0.7%, Samara Martins 0.2% and Hertz Dias 0.1%; Clariana Barão and Rui Costa Pimenta register zero. Blank and invalid votes total 3.2%, while 1.5% are undecided.

In a potential runoff, Lula leads Flávio Bolsonaro 68.3% to 24.4%. The poll also records positive assessments of both governments in the state: 50% rate Fonteles' administration good or excellent, while 17% call it bad or very bad and 32% regular. Lula's federal government receives good or excellent ratings from 57%, compared with 23% negative and 20% regular assessments.
