It is part of Grupo Estado (Grupo OESP), which includes the newspaper, Agência Estado, and the online portal Estadao.com.br, among other media ventures. The group has shifted focus towards digital multimedia platforms.

Estadão is widely regarded as a newspaper of record for Brazil, respected for its comprehensive national and international news coverage. Its editorial stance is generally described as center-right, conservative, and pro-industry, exerting significant influence on Brazilian politics. The outlet has a history of facing government censorship and harassment due to its independent reporting, including instances of prior censorship imposed by courts. More recently, Estadão published an editorial acknowledging censorship by a Supreme Court Justice, though this drew criticism from some who perceived it as hypocritical given past positions.
