Attempt to impress girlfriend nearly costs man his life in Lithuania river fall

A night out in Kretinga, Lithuania, took a dangerous turn when a 30-year-old man fell into the Akmena River while attempting to show off for his girlfriend. The incident occurred Thursday evening near a dam in the city center.

According to the man, who regained consciousness after the fall, he was walking with his girlfriend when they approached a bridge over the Akmena River. He decided to impress her by walking on the bridge's railing. However, he slipped, lost his balance, and fell into the shallow river, hitting his head.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 6:30 PM. They found the man with only his head above water near the riverbank. Without needing a boat, the rescuers waded through the shallow river to reach him, pulled him ashore, and immediately began resuscitation efforts as he had lost consciousness.

He soon regained consciousness and was handed over to an ambulance crew, who transported him to the hospital.
