Attempted jewelry store heist in Punta del Este foiled by arriving employee

An attempted jewelry store robbery in the upscale resort town of Punta del Este, Uruguay, was thwarted when an employee arrived to open the shop and discovered the perpetrator attempting to break in through the ceiling.

The incident occurred at the Rubi Rubi jewelry store. The suspect was in the process of creating a hole in the roof when the employee arrived. Alerted by the noise of the suspect falling while working on the hole, the employee noticed the intruder and immediately called the police.

The suspect escaped through the street in broad daylight, with his face uncovered, and fled without taking any valuables, leaving only a backpack behind. Security camera footage captured his escape.

Police initially detained a suspect but later released him after realizing it was a case of mistaken identity. However, the true perpetrator has since been identified, and authorities are actively searching for him, analyzing surveillance footage to track his movements. Forensic experts are examining the scene.
