New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih has indicated that his attendance at the upcoming Kuomintang (KMT) National Congress on July 25 will depend on his schedule. The congress is a significant event for the party, intended to unify candidates for the upcoming elections across 22 cities and counties. Party insiders suggest this election cycle will prioritize New Taipei City, shifting focus from previous strategies centered on central Taiwan.

When questioned about his participation, Hou, who was notably absent from the previous KMT congress, responded briefly, stating, "I will arrange it according to my schedule." His remarks were made after promoting a Father's Day rental discount event at the Sanxia National Sports Center.

The KMT's Central Standing Committee is set to nominate incumbent mayors and county magistrates for re-election, including Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng, Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang, Nantou County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua, Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin, and Lienchiang County Magistrate Wang Chung-ming. The national congress will serve as a platform to showcase these candidates together.
