Attorney General Orders Inquest into Durian Tunggal Shooting Deaths

The Attorney General's Chambers in Malaysia has decided to hold an inquest to determine the cause of death for three men shot by police in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on November 24 last year. This decision stems from a thorough review of the investigation papers presented by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

According to a statement from the Chambers, the inquest will be conducted under Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593). Its purpose is to ascertain the cause and circumstances leading to the deaths, and to identify if any criminal elements were involved in the fatal shooting incident.

This inquest aims to determine the cause and reason for death and to examine the facts and circumstances that led to the death, including identifying whether there were any criminal elements related to the deaths of the three individuals due to the shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka on November 24, 2025.

The Chambers emphasized that this decision reflects their commitment to ensuring a comprehensive, transparent, and independent examination of all facts and circumstances, in line with legal requirements. They stated that the department takes every incident involving loss of life seriously and remains dedicated to ensuring all legal actions and processes are conducted fairly, professionally, and based on the rule of law.

In the incident on November 24 of the previous year, three men, aged between 24 and 29, were killed. Police reported that one of the men allegedly swung a machete at a police corporal at a palm oil plantation in Durian Tunggal around 4 AM. The corporal sustained serious injuries to his left arm during the confrontation. The inquest is expected to provide clarity on the events that transpired.
