Aubameyang keeps scoring as Deportivo conquer La Cerámica

Euphoria has taken hold at Deportivo, who have returned to Spain’s top flight in spectacular fashion. The Galician side are unbeaten after four matches, with eight points from a possible 12 and a squad strengthened by an ambitious transfer window.

Much of the celebration belongs to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He scored in his fourth consecutive match and supplied the passes for Deportivo’s other two goals in a 3-2 comeback win at Villarreal. The result gave Deportivo victory over a Champions League opponent and left Villarreal still searching for their first win.

Villarreal struck first in the 18th minute through Nicolas Pepe after Luismi Cruz lost the ball as Deportivo tried to move forward. Pepe accelerated into the opening and found goalkeeper Leo Román out of position after the keeper came off his line too late.

Deportivo responded with pride and attacking football. Luismi Cruz equalized in the 42nd minute, and Adama Traoré put the visitors ahead in the 75th. Villarreal were level again three minutes later through Zakaria Eddahchouri, but Aubameyang completed the comeback in the 87th minute.

The defeat leaves Villarreal facing a difficult return to Champions League action. They travel to Germany to play Dortmund on Tuesday after supporters sent them off with whistles and reproaches. Deportivo, by contrast, continue their unbeaten start with the confidence of a newly promoted team refusing to be intimidated.
