Aubameyang regrets 'unhealthy and unstable' environment after leaving Marseille for La Coruña

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has departed Olympique Marseille after just one season, joining Spanish club La Coruña. The Gabonese striker expressed a desire to remain with the French club but stated that the club's decision necessitated his departure.

Aubameyang explained that while he was keen to continue his tenure at Marseille, the club's current situation prevented it. Olympique Marseille is undergoing significant austerity measures, requiring player sales to meet financial regulations and manage its wage bill. This financial pressure comes as the team faces a challenging start to the season, with no new reinforcements and key players like Pierre-Emile Hojberg and Nayef Aguerd reportedly considering exits.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Aubameyang described the past season as "very, very trying." He pointed to the constant changes within the club as creating an environment that was "not healthy and stable." The 37-year-old forward acknowledged that the team failed to create a protective "bubble" against external influences, which he believes ultimately cost them.

Aubameyang is set to embark on a "very exciting challenge" with La Coruña, where he anticipates playing a central role due to his experience. This move marks his return to La Liga, having previously had a stint with Barcelona in 2022.
