Audit Criticizes Hsinchu Museum Management; Cultural Bureau Promises Repairs

An audit has highlighted shortcomings in the maintenance and commercialization of Hsinchu City's museum cluster, prompting the Cultural Affairs Bureau to respond with assurances of ongoing repairs and revitalization. The audit report pointed to issues such as six failed attempts to find a contractor for the gift shop at the眷村 Museum. It also noted problems like decaying wooden window frames and peeling paint at the Glass Craft Museum, and water stains on the exterior and interior ceilings of the Water Intake Exhibition Hall. Furthermore, the audit found that the outdoor landscape project for the眷村 Museum was delayed and required changes to its use permit before it could open, potentially deterring investors. The report also mentioned that some newly renovated restrooms were awaiting cleaning. The Cultural Affairs Bureau explained that the gift shop tender was delayed because the museum had not yet opened, making operational conditions immature. The museum reopened on May 13 and is currently operating its cultural and creative space independently to build visitor traffic and market visibility, with plans for future contracting. Regarding the Glass Craft Museum, the bureau stated that repairs are part of a larger project for the historic building, with design planning expected to finish by year-end. The peeling paint on the accessible outdoor ramp at the Water Intake Exhibition Hall was repaired in June, and assessments for water stains are underway.
