Augsburg’s Anton Kade Shines in Front of Klopp, but Says There Has Been ‘No Contact’

Anton Kade could hardly have made a stronger case in front of Germany coach Jürgen Klopp. The Augsburg Under-21 international assisted the opening goal and scored the second in a 3-0 Bundesliga victory over Schalke.

Kade, 22, was named Man of the Match after an influential display in attacking midfield. Schalke struggled to contain him, giving the quick and technically skilled Augsburg player a prominent stage in front of the newly appointed national coach.

Augsburg coach Manuel Baum also used his post-match news conference to draw attention to his players. “We had a guest in the stadium who was able to watch many of our players,” Baum said, beginning with Kade before mentioning goalkeeper Finn Dahmen and fullback Hennes Behrens.

Klopp is due to announce his first Germany squad on Sept. 17. The team’s first home international under him will take place at Augsburg’s stadium on Sept. 27, raising the possibility that Kade could move from the junior national team to the senior squad.
