August Departures Peak: Over 56,400 Passengers Leave Athens Ports

August departures from Athens' ports are reaching their zenith, with over 56,400 passengers expected to travel on Saturday, August 8. The exodus is primarily directed towards the islands for summer vacations, with routes to the Cyclades reporting near 100% occupancy.

The Hellenic Coast Guard has implemented enhanced measures to manage the surge and ensure a smooth boarding process for the thousands of travelers. From Piraeus alone, 25 sailings are scheduled for Saturday, carrying 31,392 passengers. Rafina expects 14 departures with 9,700 passengers, while Lavrio will see eight sailings for 3,628 travelers.

The movement is also intense towards the Saronic Gulf islands. Piraeus is set to host 54 ferry and high-speed craft departures today, estimated to carry 11,701 passengers. Sunday will see an increase to 58 departures, with an estimated 9,270 travelers.

These figures confirm that the August travel rush is at its peak. Friday also saw substantial activity, with 23 departures from Piraeus carrying 30,009 passengers, and 60 sailings for the Saronic Gulf with 10,545 travelers. Rafina reported 20 ships carrying 10,304 people, and Lavrio had 12 vessels with 4,088 passengers.
