Augusto Cury left US businesses out of electoral asset declaration

Augusto Cury, the writer who has climbed to third place in Brazil’s presidential polling, left a series of businesses out of the asset declaration he submitted to the country’s electoral authorities. The omission includes three companies in Florida and two in Brazil.

Cury declared 242.3 million reais in assets, the largest amount reported by a presidential candidate. His declaration consists mainly of receivables from family companies and corporate holdings. Through his team, he said his wealth was “built lawfully” and that any inconsistencies in the filing would be corrected.

Florida’s Division of Corporations lists five companies linked to Cury. Two appear in his declaration: Intelligence School, founded in 2014, and Love Story Josefina, established in 2017 and renamed Love Story Investments in 2021. The three omitted companies, Cury Academia Comportamental, Contemplare Investments and Free Mind Publish, were opened between 2021 and 2024 and paid the fees required to remain active through 2026.

Florida records identify the people authorized to act for each company but do not disclose ownership percentages or invested capital. Cury appears as an authorized member of all three omitted companies and is the sole authorized member of one of them. Intelligence School bought and sold at least four properties in Orlando between 2014 and 2024, in transactions totaling $13.5 million, according to deeds recorded in Orange County.

A Brazilian company named Contemplare, which owns a real-estate rental and management business, also does not appear in the declaration. Nor does Academia de Pensar e Brincar, where Cury is a managing partner alongside his wife and two daughters. Among his declared assets are 25.8 million reais in Brazilian depositary receipts backed by shares in foreign companies. Corporate financial statements show that Arco Educação paid Cury’s family 589.1 million reais between December 2020 and the first half of 2023 for Escola da Inteligência, an education company founded by Cury and one of his daughters.
