Augusto Cury Wins Support From Solidariedade Leader Paulinho da Força

Paulinho da Força, president of Brazil's Solidariedade party, has declared his vote for writer and businessman Augusto Cury, the Avante candidate for president. In a video posted on social media, Paulinho said he made the decision because he did not want to join the political polarization represented by Flávio Bolsonaro of the PL and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the PT.

“Practically speaking, I was even thinking of casting a blank vote,” Paulinho said. He formally endorsed Cury at an event held at the headquarters of the Fundação 1º de Maio in São Paulo on the night of the 8th.

The endorsement came as Cury advanced in the polls. The latest BTG/Nexus survey showed him with 45% against Lula's 43% in a hypothetical second round. The same poll projected Flávio Bolsonaro with 46% and Lula with 45% in another possible runoff.

Cury also gained ground on social media during the final week of August, attracting about 2 million followers in two days. A survey by Estadão found that influencers with smaller audiences had begun producing content in support of the Avante candidate. Their profiles cover finance, humor, beauty, motorsport, religion, business, motherhood and entrepreneurship, among other subjects.
