Australia claims first cycling gold at Commonwealth Games, sets world record

Australia's cycling team has begun its medal charge at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing its first gold in track cycling. The pair of Neil Fachie MBE and pilot Aaron Pope claimed the top spot in the men's tandem B 1,000m time trial, marking a significant victory.

Earlier in the day, Tara Neyland set the tone for the Australian team by clocking a world record time of 4:49.648 in the qualifying round for the C4-5 4,000m individual pursuit. She later went on to win the gold medal in the event.
