Austrian Press Council reprimands "Kronen Zeitung" for mixing facts and opinion

The Austrian Press Council has issued a reprimand to the newspaper "Kronen Zeitung." The council found that an article published by the paper, titled "Here the EU is betraying our farmers," violated the Austrian Press Code of Ethics.

The article, which focused on the Mercosur trade agreement, was criticized for failing to maintain a clear distinction between factual reporting and opinion. The Press Council's Senate 2 determined that the report contained too many elements of commentary, blurring the lines for readers.

A complaint was lodged with the Press Council by a reader who felt the article did not adhere to journalistic standards.
