Authorities identify suspect in major's death

The National Police have identified the individual they believe is responsible for the fatal shooting of an Air Force major in Santo Domingo Este. Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira announced that Jorge Luis Montero Peña, also known as "Romito" and "El Pintor," is accused of killing Major José Aníbal Espinosa Valdés, 49.

Authorities are actively searching for Montero Peña. In a related development, José Luis Bautista, identified by the alias "El Che," voluntarily surrendered to police. Preliminary investigations suggest Bautista was present in the vehicle used by the alleged assailant to flee the scene.

The vehicle believed to have been used in the incident is now in police custody and is being processed as evidence. Reports indicate the car was left at a workshop for painting and was allegedly used without the owner's permission. The shooting also injured the major's 20-year-old son, Henry José Espinosa Fortuna.

The investigation is ongoing, with police actively seeking Montero Peña. The surrender of Bautista provides a potential lead in understanding the events surrounding the major's death.
