Authorities seize 39 guns, more than 1,400 rounds and three types of drugs in Durango

Patrols by Mexico’s Army and National Guard in the municipality of El Oro, Durango, led to the seizure of 39 firearms and more than 1,400 rounds of ammunition.

Authorities reported finding 13 long guns and 26 handguns, along with three air-powered weapons, 1,482 rounds, 63 magazines, 700 grams of methamphetamine, 15 doses of cocaine and 64 doses of marijuana. A vehicle and tactical equipment were also seized.

The Army said personnel from the Navy and the Secretariat for Security and Citizen Protection took part in the operation. The seized items were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, for further investigations and forensic proceedings.

The Defense Secretariat said the actions followed the rule of law and respected human rights. It also cited national administration figures showing the seizure of firearms, ammunition, vehicles and drugs during the current administration, saying the operations weaken criminal structures.
