Award-winning 'Wedding' comes to Rijeka's film garden with inclusive, free screening

Rijeka's UGIN film garden will host an inclusive screening of the acclaimed Croatian film 'Svadba' (Wedding) on Thursday, August 27. This special showing, part of the "Film svima" (Film for All) national program for inclusive audiovisual culture, offers free admission to everyone, emphasizing accessibility and shared experience.

The film has been specially adapted at the beginning of the year to include features for the deaf, hard of hearing, blind, and visually impaired. These adaptations include inclusive subtitles, a sign language interpretation video, and audio description. The screening, which begins at 8 PM at Viktora Cara Emina 9, aims to ensure that all members of the community can enjoy the cinematic experience together.

'Svadba,' directed by Igor Šeregi, has garnered significant attention and critical acclaim. It has already captivated nearly 2.5 million viewers in cinemas across Croatia, positioning it as one of the highest-grossing films in the country's history. The organizers highlighted that the free entry not only addresses economic barriers but also fosters a communal viewing atmosphere.

UGIN film garden, established in 2021, is Croatia's first inclusive pop-up cinema. The "Film svima" program is a collaborative effort involving Kultura svima svugdje, Filmaktiv, the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and the Association of the Blind of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media, the City of Rijeka, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
