AZ wins Johan Cruijff Schaal for second time after large victory over ten-man PSV in Eindhoven: 0-4

AZ secured the Johan Cruijff Schaal for the second time in their history, delivering a commanding 0-4 victory over a depleted PSV side in Eindhoven. The Dutch Supercup match was significantly altered in the ninth minute when PSV's Joey Veerman was sent off with a red card for striking opponent Mexx Meerdink in the face with his boot. Despite the early setback, Meerdink, with a plaster on his cheek, continued playing and headed AZ into the lead before halftime.

In the second half, AZ extended their advantage with goals from Weslley Patati, Elijah Dijkstra, and Ro-Zangelo Daal. The numerical disadvantage and fatigue clearly hampered the league champions, PSV, who struggled to contain the ten-man AZ squad after the break. The victory marks AZ's second Johan Cruijff Schaal title, their first coming in 2009.

PSV, the reigning league champions, remains the record holder for the most Johan Cruijff Schaal titles with fifteen wins. Both teams are set to begin their Eredivisie campaigns next Saturday. PSV will host Fortuna Sittard, while AZ will play at home against newly promoted ADO Den Haag.
