Aziz Akhannouch holds talks in Paris with OECD secretary-general

Morocco’s partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is being positioned for a new phase after Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch held talks with Secretary-General Mathias Cormann in Paris on Monday.

The meeting focused on the current state of cooperation, its future prospects and ways to raise the relationship to new levels. Akhannouch praised the quality of ties between Morocco and the OECD, which date back to 2005 and have gradually developed into one of the kingdom’s most structured partnerships with an international organization.

Morocco was among the first non-member countries to benefit from the OECD’s country programme, which has since been renewed twice, Akhannouch said. The kingdom currently takes part in 13 OECD bodies and more than 30 of the organization’s mechanisms.

Akhannouch said the cooperation reflects Morocco’s approach to reform, which emphasizes measuring results, drawing on international best practices and extending approaches that have proven effective. Cormann, for his part, described Morocco as the OECD’s oldest partner in the region and praised the social reforms launched by the kingdom, as well as the promising economic prospects they create.
