Azucena Cisneros Delivers Public Works in Ecatepec; Residents Receive Water, Drainage, and Paving

Ecatepec Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss inaugurated significant infrastructure upgrades in the Ejido de Santa María Tulpetlac neighborhood, bringing much-needed water, drainage, and repaved streets to residents who had waited over a decade for these services. The "Cimientos de Esperanza Mano a Mano" program delivered repaving with hydraulic concrete to six streets and introduced new water and drainage networks to two others.

You should never have had to live with this backlog, because you haven't been here for 10 years, you have been here for many years and governments have come and gone without this whole area being recovered and living in a different way. That's why, there's no other way, it's up to us to act.

Residents voiced their deep appreciation for the completed projects. Elvira López Méndez, a resident of Cerrada de Lirio, shared that her community had lacked potable water and drainage since 2013, forcing them to purchase water from tankers and rely on septic tanks for 13 years. She contrasted Cisneros Coss's fulfillment of her campaign promise with the unfulfilled assurances of previous municipal administrations, who she said only offered empty promises and bureaucratic runarounds.

Azucena Cisneros made a commitment and she fulfilled it. We are very grateful because we finally got the water and drainage. The previous municipal presidents just kept us going in circles, telling us to submit your requests, they would schedule us, we would go, and they never provided a solution to what we were asking for.

Francisco Reyes Vázquez, director of the local water authority Sapase, detailed the technical aspects of the work, noting the installation of 200 meters of water and drainage networks. He highlighted the challenges faced, including navigating a Pemex pipeline to connect the drainage system to the Gran Canal. Carlos Ramírez Brassetti, Ecatepec's Director of Public Works, indicated that with these improvements, the neighborhood is nearing full pavement, with only a small portion of its 53 streets remaining.

Here are 53 streets in total. That is to say, very little is missing for it to be a totally paved neighborhood and we are going for it.

During her visit, Cisneros Coss also toured recently repaved streets in the Cuchilla de la Draga neighborhood. Victoria Méndez López, president of the local Citizen Participation Council (Copaci), emphasized the long period of neglect, stating that her community had been abandoned for 30 years and that Cisneros Coss was the first official to address their needs.
