B.C. cat found on dock after Bradley Creek wildfire, burned and alone

A small grey cat, now nicknamed "Lucky," is recovering after being rescued from the Bradley Creek wildfire. Andrew Erickson discovered the cat sitting alone on a partially burned dock while surveying the damage from a boat. Erickson noted the cat appeared to have been without help for two and a half days. Lucky suffered significant burns, with her fur singed so badly that Erickson couldn't determine if she was long-haired or short-haired. Her paws and ears were burned, and a bald patch marked an area above her eye. Despite her injuries and fright, the cat immediately snuggled with Erickson when he picked her up, staying with him on the journey home. Erickson took Lucky inside, and a veterinarian later advised she needed further medical treatment away from the area. Lucky is currently in foster care while efforts are made to find her owner. Erickson expressed his willingness to adopt Lucky if no owner is located, stating, "If she hasn’t got people, she is more than welcome here." The Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT) reported that four cats from the Bradley Creek fire are seeking homes. The wildfire destroyed approximately 230 homes, leaving a path of devastation. For Erickson, Lucky represents a small bright spot amidst the significant loss, bringing a smile to his face whenever he thinks of her.
