B.C. wildfires continue to flare up, with almost 30 added in past 24 hours

British Columbia continues to battle an escalating wildfire situation, with nearly 30 new fires igniting in the last 24 hours, compounding the nearly 100 already burning across the province. The growing number of blazes poses an increasing threat to communities.

Even if a wildfire is not threatening your community, the BC Wildfire Service is recommending that British Columbians be prepared if you need to leave quickly.

The Central Okanagan Emergency Management has issued three new evacuation orders and four alerts due to the Bradley Creek wildfire, located north of Kelowna on the west side of Okanagan Lake. This particular fire, spanning 10 square kilometers, is classified as out of control and is believed to have been caused by human activity.

While the BC Wildfire Service recommends that all British Columbians remain prepared for potential quick evacuations, even if their community is not currently threatened, the agency acknowledges the significant role of thunderstorms and gusty winds.
