'Baby Shark' boy returns as singer after 10 years with new single 'Wave'

Park Geon-ryeong, the boy who gained global fame as 'Baby Shark Boy' in the "Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance" video, is set to make his debut as a singer, returning to the music scene after a decade. The wildly popular "Baby Shark" video, released in 2016, has surpassed 17 billion views and held the top spot for global YouTube views for 69 consecutive months.

The Pinkfong Company announced that Park's first digital single, titled 'Wave,' will be released on August 20. Park, who made a surprise appearance in a short-form content piece celebrating Baby Shark's 10th anniversary last year, is now embarking on a new challenge as a recording artist. The content connecting his childhood and present self garnered 22 million views, highlighting the public's continued interest.

For his single 'Wave,' Park co-wrote the lyrics, expressing the excitement of returning to the public eye after 10 years and his feelings about embarking on a new journey. The track also features rapper Jooheon of the boy group Monsta X. This project represents The Pinkfong Company's inaugural artist initiative, aiming to bridge its intellectual property with the personal growth narratives of the individuals featured in its content.

Park expressed his enthusiasm for the release, stating, "Ten years ago, I danced next to Baby Shark, but now I want to share my voice and the stories I've written." He added, "I am happy to start anew with those who have remembered me for a long time." The company plans to showcase Park's journey from childhood to the present through the music and music video. A teaser was released on his YouTube channel on August 10, and a behind-the-scenes documentary, 'Wave: The Boy's Record,' detailing his growth alongside Baby Shark, will be released after the single's launch.
