‘Bachelorette’ star Joe Amabile shares health update after brain surgery

Reality television personality Joe Amabile has shared a positive health update one week after undergoing brain surgery to remove a low-grade astrocytoma. Amabile, known for his appearances on 'The Bachelorette,' posted a video to Instagram detailing his recovery and treatment plan.

I was diagnosed with a very low grade astrosytoma. So I will be undergoing treatment which included a daily pill that will put any remaining tumor cells to sleep, as well as regular MRIs. Staying positive baby.

"Recovery has been really great for the most part," Amabile stated in the video. He described initial struggles with speech and pain but confirmed he is now off strong painkillers, relying only on occasional Tylenol. The prognosis for his astrocytoma, described as "very low grade," was deemed "fairly good," with surgeons successfully removing the entire tumor.

I think I struggled at the beginning with speaking, just like knowing what to say but not being able to say it. Then, you know, just pain obviously. But it’s been a full week. I’m off Oxy[Contin]. I’m off all the painkillers. I take a few Tylenol here and there.

Amabile's treatment will involve a daily pill intended to suppress any remaining tumor cells, alongside regular MRI scans. "I will be going on treatment which is just a pill every day for the rest of my life to put the bad cells to sleep and hopefully they stay asleep," he explained.

His wife, Serena Pitt, also shared her gratitude on social media, posting photos from their hospital stay and thanking the medical team at NYU Langone Health for their "endless patience, care, compassion, and kindness." Amabile had initially revealed his diagnosis of a "blueberry-size lesion" in his brain on July 13, following a full-body MRI scan.
