Taylor Farms recalls jalapeno products amid salmonella outbreak

Food producer Taylor Farms, the parent company of Taylor Farms, has voluntarily recalled several prepared foods containing jalapenos, including salsa, taco dip, pico de gallo, and guacamole, due to possible salmonella contamination.

Upon notification that Coast Citrus Distributors is voluntarily recalling fresh jalapeños due to potential Salmonella contamination, Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling finished products containing jalapeños subject to this recall.

The announcement follows a recent recall of Taylor Farms' iceberg lettuce products sourced from central Mexico, which were potentially linked to a multistate cyclospora outbreak. In a press release, the company stated that upon notification of Coast Citrus Distributors recalling fresh jalapenos for potential salmonella contamination, Taylor Fresh Foods decided to recall finished products containing those jalapenos.

The FDA and CDC, along with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to fresh jalapenos supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, supplying Coast Citrus Distributors, has been identified as the potential source. Taylor Farms has stated it is no longer sourcing products from this farmer and is using alternative suppliers.

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors.

To date, Taylor Fresh Foods is not aware of any reported illnesses linked to its products containing jalapenos. The recalled items, which include diced jalapenos, rice and bean burritos, spicy roast beef sandwiches, spicy pimento cheese dip, and fiesta-style shrimp salad, were distributed to retail centers in 26 states and sold at major grocery stores. Consumers are advised to discard the products and seek refunds at the point of purchase.
