Back Adeleke now, Dele Momodu tells Osun opposition

Dele Momodu, a prominent Nigerian publisher and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, has called for unity among opposition parties in Osun State. He urged them to rally behind Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party ahead of the August 16 governorship election.

I had prayed fervently against the demon and clash of voluptuous egos. I wished we wouldn’t have to reinvent the wheel since the ADC initially paraded the second, third and fourth leading candidates in the 2023 presidential election.

Momodu expressed concern that divisions within the opposition could be exploited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the election results. He stated that opposition unity is crucial to prevent the APC from engaging in electoral malpractice.

"It’s foolhardy not to see the need for opposition unity," Momodu asserted in a statement on X. He emphasized the importance of confronting political reality and adopting a practical strategy. Momodu believes that the current political climate in Osun necessitates that opposition parties set aside personal ambitions and work towards a shared goal.

But I still did not give up on the hope that Nigerians, not just the parties, would rise up massively against the APC menace.

He argued that the APC has turned Osun State into a "theatre of war," making it imperative for all opposition factions to align immediately and support Governor Adeleke. Momodu stressed that a divided opposition would inadvertently benefit the APC, potentially undermining democratic processes in the state.
